About Evan
Hope
Evan Hope was born and raised in Delhi Township (Holt). He
graduated from Holt High School and attended Lansing Community
College.
Before
serving as Township Clerk, he served as Township Trustee
from 1996-1998. While a Township Trustee he served as
Ingham County Deputy Drain Commissioner.
Evan
served in other capacities in the Ingham County Drain Office
including assessing assistant and Public Outreach Coordinator for
the Tollgate Wetland Project. Prior to public service, Evan
worked for the family painting business as well as a local Delhi
Township business, LumberTown of Holt.
Evan is the
youngest of 8 children, all who grew up in Delhi Township.
Evan's father passed away when he was 8 years old. His
mother Marlene, worked for Holt Public Schools enabling her to
support the family.
Evan was raised
on the philosophy of working toward the betterment of community.
His family has been very involved in public service.
His father owned
his own painting business and was elected to the Holt School Board
which he served for 17 years. The "Bernard L. Hope Middle
School" in Holt is named in his honor.
Evan's mother
was always involved in community organizations and his father was
a charter member of the Holt Lions Club, which Evan is a member
today.
Evan's uncle,
Ken Hope, served as a Delhi Township Trustee, an Ingham County
Commissioner and on the Ingham County Road Commission. Ken
was a local business owner and long time resident of Delhi
Township. The "Kenneth A. Hope Soccer Complex" on Aurelius Road is named in his honor.
Evan Hope was
first elected to the Township Board as a Trustee in 1996.
Although all records are not available, it appears that Evan was
the youngest person ever elected Delhi Township Trustee, at age 24.
In 1998,
Virginia Farr, who served as Township Clerk for 20 years decided
to retire.
Working with Evan on the Township Board for nearly two
years, she recommended that the Board appoint Evan to fill her
vacancy. This appointment made Evan Hope the youngest person to
serve as Delhi Township Clerk, at age 26.
Evan completed and intensive 3 year institute at Michigan State
University, which along with his experience and accomplishments
earn him Certified Municipal Clerk status (CMC). Evan is the
first Certified Municipal Clerk for Delhi Charter Township.
Evan and his wife Kara
are homeowners and are raising their young niece and nephew who both attend Holt Public Schools.
Evan Hope looks
forward to serving you as your Clerk. The only thing he ever
promises, is to work hard and listen to his constituents.
